Richard J. Boisvert, 69, of Sanford died May 24, 2013 at Goodall Hospital surrounded by his family.Richard was born in Sanford on July 27, 1943, the youngest of eleven children to Wilfred and Georgianna (Johnson) Boisvert. He graduated salutatorian from St. Ignatius High School in 1961, and then volunteered to serve in the U.S. Air Force from 1962-1966, with one year in Vietnam. In 1970, he graduated from the former St. Francis College in Biddeford Pool, with a degree in Economics. Richard had worked at American Cyanamid in Sanford, Pepperell Mill in Biddeford, and Grant's in Portland. In the 1970s, he began teaching at St. Andre's School in Biddeford, followed by 17 years teaching at Sanford Middle School, until he retired in 1988 following a stroke.Richard was a member of the Maine Education Association, National Education Association, and Maine Association of Retirees and served as chief negotiator for the Sanford Teachers Association in the 1970s. In the 1980s, he coached basketball for the S.S.Y.A.A., and he was a lector at St. Ignatius Church. He was well known for his playful sense of humor. He was an avid reader, enjoyed cooking, and loved watching science fiction programs and Boston Celtics games. He was pre-deceased by his parents, siblings and their spouses Walter and Rolande Lang, John and Jeanne Beaurivage, Conrad and Juliette Chevalier, Gerard Boisvert, Rene Boisvert, Ernest Boisvert, Ross and Elaine Smith, William and Annette Ball, Roger Desrochers, and in-laws Emile and Bertha Cote.Surviving are his wife of 45 years Rachel (Cote) Boisvert; daughters: Christine and her husband David Dupuis of Sanford; Cheryl and her husband Jason Worswick of South Portland; son: Brian Boisvert and his wife Sarah Herlihy of Boston; four grandchildren: Matthew, Emily, and Beth Dupuis and Griffin Worswick; two sisters, Therese Desrochers of Sanford and Doris and her husband John Gerfy of East Wenatchee, Washington; in-laws: Emile and Phyllis Cote of Lakeland, Florida, Donald and Gloria Cote of Copperas Cove, Texas, Laurette Boisvert of Springvale, Pauline Boisvert of Saco, and many beloved nieces and nephews.Visiting hours for Mr. Boisvert will be held on Tuesday, May 28th from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter Street, Sanford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, May 29th at St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church, located on North Avenue in Sanford. Interment will follow at Notre Dame Cemetery in Springvale. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the American Stroke Association, P.O.
