Cecile M. Binette, 95, of Sanford, died at her home on Sunday, September 9, 2018, surrounded by her family. Cecile was born on July 15, 1923 to Donat and Dorilla (Hamelin) Richer, the oldest of 10 children. She grew up in Sanford and attended local schools. In 1946 she married Romeo Binette and together they raised eight children and shared 25 years of marriage. She was a loving and devoted wife, caring for Romeo for many years after he became ill until his death in 1972. Cecile was a devout Catholic and loved to travel and spend time at the family camp in Sabattus. She was a smart and creative woman and an excellent seamstress, cook and baker. She also enjoyed crocheting and knitting. She was very interested in genealogy and liked to travel to gather genealogical information. Most of her life, Cecile was known as "Memre" by her family and friends. Even though she was small in stature, she stood out like the tallest tree in the forest. She was a very strong woman who was loved by all. Her presence will be deeply missed by her family and friends.Cecile was predeceased by her husband Romeo and by four brothers, Eugene (Gene), Leo, Lionel (Nel), and Donat, Jr.Surviving are eight children, Elaine Plante and her husband Dennis of Kittery, Albert Binette and his wife Linda of Alfred, Sylvia Lachance and her husband Normand of Gonic, New Hampshire; Irene Bemis and her husband Patrick of Sanford, Evelyn Binette of Portland, Louise Binette of Saco, Lucie Smith of Sanford and Karen Binette of Sanford; 19 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; five siblings, Gabrielle (Gaby), Hortense (Tense), Jeanette, Rose and Henry and numerous nieces and nephews.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Friday, September 14th at St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church, located on North Avenue in Sanford. Interment will follow at St. Ignatius Cemetery.Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider sending a memorial contribution to the Sanford AMVETS, Post 3, 169 School Street, Sanford, Maine 04073.Arrangements are under the direction of Black Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, Sanford-Springvale.To leave a message of condolence for the family please click on the condolences tab to the left.
