Stephen P. Zuk

Stephen P. Zuk, 93, of Sanford, died on Sunday, November 3, 2013 at the Newton Center in Sanford.Stephen was born in Woburn, Massachusetts on August 20, 1920 to Thomas and Amelia (Tresavich) Zuk and attended school in Danvers, Massachusetts. He served in the 4th division of U.S. Marine Corps from 1942 to 1945. He was involved in several engagements during World War II including the Marshall Islands, Saipan, Tinian and Iwo Jima. In 1949 he married Bernice F. Sudol. Together they raised three children and shared 50 years of marriage until her death in 1999.Stephen worked as a self-employed carpenter for many years building many houses by himself or with the help of his sons. He was a sports enthusiast and loved watching all types of sports on TV. He was also very proud of his vegetable garden, especially his Russian tomatoes. Stephen was a communicant of St. Therse of Lisieux Parish in Sanford as well as a member of the Sanford post of the American Legion. He will be remembered as a loving and devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Stephen was predeceased by his wife, his parents, three sisters, Zenia Zuk, Mary Varaskevitch and Nadja Fleming and a special nephew, Gregory T. Fleming.Surviving are three children, Patricia Bolz and her husband Andrew, Stephen M. Zuk and Jack Zuk, all of Sanford; eight grandchildren, Michael Zuk and Christopher Zuk and his wife Cheryl, both of Sanford, Stephen Zuk of York, Lindsay Duchesneau and her husband Eric of Sanford, Stacie Gillespie of Sanford, Brandy King of Sanford, Cheryl Flanagan and her husband Eric of Montpelier, Vermont and Jonathan Bolz of Rochester, New Hampshire; 16 great-grandchildren, Taylor, Corey, Sophia, Christopher and Maclain Zuk, Gavyn Duchesneau, Alyssa, Kelsey and Kaitlyn Burnell, Kayla and Samantha Flanagan, Dennis, Mark and Brittany King and Andrew and Michael Bolz; a sister-in-law Edna Camuso of Concord, Massachusetts and several nieces and nephews.Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday, November 7th at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home located at 580 Main Street in Springvale. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 noon on Friday, November 8th at St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, Notre Dame Church, located on Payne Street in Springvale.
