Barbara N. Yohman

Barbara N. Yohman, 91, of Springvale, passed away on Friday, March 1, 2013 at the Newton Center in Sanford, with her family by her side.Barbara was born in Saugus, Massachusetts on May 14, 1921, the daughter of C.F. Nelson and Florence (Shorey) Pratt. She attended Saugus schools. On June 17, 1944 she married Joseph A. Yohman in Saugus and they shared 57 years of marriage together until his death on August 12, 2001.Barbara was employed as a secretary for General Electric in Lynn, Massachusetts and Cincinnati, Ohio and also for the University of Cincinnati. She was an avid painter and a career volunteer at hospitals in Cleveland, Cincinnati and at Goodall Hospital in Sanford. Barbara and Joseph retired to Alfred, Maine in 1982 and wintered in Florida for many years. She also enjoyed bowling and earned several trophies.Barbara is predeceased by her husband and by a sister, Evelyn Hansen.Surviving are four sons, J. Robert Yohman of Houston, Texas, Donald F. Yohman of Cincinnati, Ohio, Douglas P. Yohman of East Waterboro and Jeffrey A. Yohman of Springvale; a daughter, Judith A. Oetzel of Cincinnati, Ohio and two sisters, Marilyn Ward and her husband Robie and Marion Shipulski; six grandchildren, Andrew, Chance, Alyssa, Abbie, Zachary and Lana and three great-grandchildren, Tyler, Madelyn and Jaxon.A memorial service will be held for Barbara in the near future.Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider sending a memorial contribution to the Kennebunk Land Trust, 11 York Street, Kennebunk, Maine 04030 designated for conservation projects along the Mousam River.Arrangements are under the direction of Black Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, Sanford-Springvale.To leave a message of condolence for the family please visit www.blackfuneralhomes.com.
