Clifford E. Wormwood

Clifford E. "Kip" Wormwood, 79, of Sanford, died Saturday, June 21, 2008 at Goodall Hospital in Sanford after a short illness.Kip was born in Sanford on April 17, 1929 to Henry F. and Geneva Ross Wormwood and attended local schools. He left Sanford High School in 1947 to enlist in the Army Air Corps. He served in the Air Corps and later the Air Force for 6 1/2 years. He retired from the Portsmouth Naval Ship Yard in 1986 after 20 years of service.Kip was a big sports fan and also played several sports himself. He loved the Red Sox and the Patriots and his wife's love of the Celtics had even won him over. In recent years, he enjoyed playing golf and kayaking with his wife of 51 1/2 years, the former Beatrice Lachance of Sanford.Kip was predeceased by his parents and a brother Richard Wormwood.Surviving are his wife, Beatrice of Sanford; a daughter, Sharon of Augusta; a son, Richard of Portlamd; two sisters, Margaret and Noreen Wormwood of Sanford; a brother, Robert Wormwood of Sanford and several cousins from New Hampshire and Florida.Funeral prayers will be at 12:00 noon on Saturday, June 28th at Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street in Springvale. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests the memorial contributions be sent to the Disabled American Veterans Memorial Program, P.O.
