Bernard Woodward

Bernard J. "Woody" Woodward, 84 years old, of Sanford, died Saturday, August 11, 2007 at the H.D. Goodall Hospital in Sanford following a lengthy illness.Bernard was born in North Waterboro on July 28, 1923. He was the son of the late Everett and Cecile Davis Woodward.Better known as "Woody", Bernard spent most of his life working in the woods with his friend Bob Vaillere. Bernard could always be counted upon to drop a tree with skill, ease and the precision. His many years of hard work made him one of the finest woodsmen around.Predeceasing Bernard was a daughter Donna Bertrand, and a brother Kenneth Woodward.Surviving is his loving and caring wife of 61 years Annie (Tirrell) Woodward of Sanford; three children, Patricia Hallock and her husband Henry of Riverhead, NY, Diane Bass and her husband Vincent of Alfred, Everett G. Woodward and his wife Monica of Sanford, a twin sister Bernette Murphy of California, Christine Day of Cornish, Barbara LaCroix of Standish, and a brother Walter Woodward of Biddeford. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.At the Woodward families' request, services for Bernard will be held privately.For those that desire to leave memorials in Bernard's name, the family suggests they be made to the American Cancer Society, 1 Main St. Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086.
