Paul H. Winchenbaugh, 92, of Lebanon Street in Sanford, died Tuesday, February 15, 2005 at his home. He was a 35 year resident of Sanford.He was born October 28, 1912 in Chelsea, MA a son of Fernival and Elizabeth (Mobbs) Winchenbaugh and graduated from Lexington High School, Lexington, MA in 1930. Paul began his lifelong love with the State of Maine when he attended the University of Maine, Orono and was a member of the Phi Mu Delta Fraternity. He graduated in 1934 with a Civil Engineer Degree. Mr. Winchenbaugh began his career with F.A. Foster in Boston, MA and worked till 1953 before the textile industry began its' decline. He worked at Wasco in Wakefield, MA and followed the company to Sanford in 1970. He was a dedicated employee, who retired from the company in 1982.He was an avid sports enthusiast and played baseball in his younger years. He also enjoyed bowling with a league for many years. Paul began his stamp collection when he was a young child and kept adding to his vast collection well into his early 90's. A history and political buff, Mr. Winchenbaugh called himself an Independent, yet his family shared he was a traditionalist and leaned towards the Republican side. He belonged to the Nature Conservancy and was involved with conservation issues. He was predeceased by his dear wife, Ethel (Dickson) Winchenbaugh following 54 years of marriage in 1998. Also by his brother, Vincent Winchenbaugh and his sister, Phyllis Graham.Family survivors include his son, Richard A. Winchenbaugh and wife, Alina of Sanford; two daughters, Paula J. Dunlavey and husband, Marty of Derry, NH and Marilyn B. Hersom and husband, Larry of Lebanon; three granddaughters, Joyce Winchenbaugh of Sanford; Sandra Tierney of Sanford; Alexandra Nutter of New York City, NY; three grandsons, Paul Nutter of Derry, NH; Nathan and Matthew Hersom both of Lebanon; two great-grandchildren, Cassidy Tierney and Salma Elamrani. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, February 18, 2005 at the Heald Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale at 10:00 a.m. with Rev.
