Alice Welch

Alice Welch, 85, of Sanford, died on Saturday, September 4, 2010 at Goodall Hospital in Sanford.Alice was born in New Bedford, Massachusetts on July 5, 1925 to Joseph and Rose (Durant) Lacerte. She was raised in Biddeford where she attended local Catholic schools. After finishing high school she attended the Chicago School of Nursing.Alice and her late husband, Raymond Welch, owned and operated the Bauneg View Nursing Home on Bauneg Beg Hill in North Berwick. She also worked as a private nurse for the Bush Family in Kennebunkport caring for Nancy Walker. After retiring she moved down south for twenty years. She moved back to Sanford one year ago to be closer to her children.Alice was an avid knitter and loved flower gardening; she was particularly fond of roses. She enjoyed going to the beach and to the Trafton Senior Center. She was a devoted Catholic and a dedicated mother. She will be dearly missed by all of her family and friends.Surviving are two daughters, Barbara Welch of Sanford and Ida Smith and her husband Dennis of Sanford; a sister, Doris Therrien of Rochester, NH; five grandchildren, Shawn Smith of North Berwick, Tamra Smith of Saco, Lisa Gauvreau of Saco, Albert Gauvreau of Waterboro and Raymond Gauvreau of North Berwick and 9 great-grandchildren.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 10th at St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, St. Ignatius Church.
