Jeannette M. Webber

Jeannette M. Webber, 91, of Acton, passed away on Thursday March 8, 2012 at the Hyder House in Dover, NH. She was born on May 11, 1920, a daughter of the late Amedee and Cordelia (Royer) Legere. She was a life long communicant of Saint Ignatius and Notre Dame churches. She was a resident of Sanford for 48 years and attended local schools. At an early age she worked for her father Amedee Legere at his local market known as State Court Market on State Court Street in Sanford until such time Jeannette helped to make history and was one of the first women to work at the Portland Shipyard at a time when all of our country's fathers and sons were called to war. After the war she and her husband Lewis assumed ownership of her father's business and continued its successful operation for another 28 years. After closing the store she worked at various places such as Universal Shoe, Nike and Romac Orchards until her retirement in 1985. In 1968 she and her husband moved to Acton in a home on Mousam Lake where she lived another 43 years enjoying lakeside living with family and friends.She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years Lewis H. Webber Jr. She is survived by her daughter Linda E. Champagne of Biddeford and her son Stephen E. Webber Sr. of Kittery. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Stephen R. Champagne of Tamecula, CA, Stephanie (Webber) Frigon of Exeter, NH and Stephen E. Webber Jr. an Ensign in the U.S. Navy currently serving in Pensacola, FL.
