Joanne C. Vermette
Joanne Vermette passed away peacefully on February 21st with her loving family at her side at the Gosnell House in Scarborough.Joanne was born in 1930 in Old Orchard Beach, grew up in Saco and Limerick Maine and in 1948 graduated from Limerick high school as valedictorian of her class. She was a loving wife, mother grandmother and friend, with a warm engaging smile and caring personality that made a lasting impression on everyone that she met.For 28 years she was the children's librarian at the Springvale Public Library where she touched so very many young lives. Throughout her life she loved literature and reading was one of her great joys.Joanne married Andre Vermette in 1949, and for the next 67 wonderful years they raised 5 children together and were blessed with 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. The living example of their love for one another and their family was one that impacted many lives and leaves with all a very lasting impression. Joanne created a warm and loving home for her family and others, and was always there as a good listener, confidant, mentor and advisor, impacting them for generations to come. Joanne's survivors include her husband Andre, brother Bruce Carlson and his wife Rebecca of Springvale, children Linda Lavertu and her husband Tom of Sanford, Gregory Vermette and his wife Ann of Saco, Jeffrey Vermette and his wife Mary Jane of Windham, Denise Vermette of Springvale and Tony Vermette and his wife Bridgette of Scarborough, 12 Grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staffs of Southern Maine Healthcare and the Gosnell Center in Scarborough for the loving care that they provided Joanne. A time of visitation will be held on Thursday February 25 from 4:00-7:00 PM at Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home 580 Main St., Springvale. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday February 26 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Therse Parish Notre Dame Church in Springvale.A burial will follow later in the spring at Notre Dame Cemetery.
