Gertrude M. Berthiaume

Gertrude M. Pepin Berthiaume, of Springvale, passed away on June 25, 2016 at the Lodges, where she had resided the past three years. Gertrude was born in Sanford, the six of seven children to Rudolphe and Lydia Voyer Pepin. She was a 1950 graduate of St. Ignatius High School, where she participated in cheerleading and basketball.On June 30, 1951 she married Donald Roland Berthiaume. Together "Bert and Gert" created a loving home for their four children. While raising her family she worked as a manager at Aletta Dress Manufacturing Company in Springvale, retiring in the late 1970's.After retirement she and her husband enjoyed travelling and spending time with family. Gertrude was passionate about vegetable gardening. Always the pragmatic one she stated " you cannot eat flowers". Her tomato plants were her pride and joy! She also liked to reminisce about her childhood days on the Shaw's Ridge farm.Gertrude was predeceased by her husband, Donald, son, John Francis, siblings-brothers, Gerard, Sylvio, Bertrand and Roger Pepin, sisters, Carmen Dolbec and Marie Ange Caron. She is survived by her two daughters: Elaine and her husband Mark Cyr, Susan and her husband Rene Sheltra, son, LCDR(Ret.) Brian and his wife, Diane Berthiaume of Virginia Beach, Virginia, six grandchildren; Christopher and Lauren Cyr, Renee and Zachary Sheltra and Erin and Matthew Berthiaume, two great grandchildren: Isaac and Annaliese Cushman.The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Compassus Hospice, especially Cheryl and Rollie. To the Lodges staff for loving care of our mother.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday July 8th at 10AM at St. Therese of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church.
