Marshall J. Bernier
Marshall J. Bernier Jr., better known as "Bookie" to most, died Monday, December 25, 2006 in Portland Maine following a massive stroke.Bookie was born on April 20, 1935 in Sanford, ME. He was the son of the late Marshall Sr. and Alice Perron Bernier. He attended Sanford schools, and graduated from Sanford High School with the class of 1955. Following school he proudly served his country in the U.S. Air force until honorably discharged in 1959. Bookie worked for the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard until his retirement in 1992. He enjoyed running, playing tennis, hunting, traveling, and was an avid baseball card collector. He was also a loyal communicant of St. Pius X Church of Portland.Surviving is his wife of over 45 years Carolyn DeBlois Bernier of Falmouth, ME; three sons, Michael Bernier and his wife Julie of South Portland, John Bernier and his wife Mary Lou of Hudson, MA, Brian Bernier and his wife Michele of Portland, a brother Peter Bernier and his wife Bonnie, five grandsons, three granddaughters, two nieces, a nephew, and a great-niece.A 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Mr. Bernier this Thursday, December 28, 2006 at St. Pius X Church on Ocean Ave. in Portland.In lieu of flowers the Bernier family suggests memorials be made to the St. Jude's Hospital For Children, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
