SANFORD Joseph P. Bernard 97 died Thursday afternoon at H.D. Goodall Hospital following a short illness. He was born in St. Nobert, P.Q., Canada October 4, 1910 the son of Octave & Marie Louise (Angers) Bernard. He attended school in Canada, and moved to Limerick in 1923 and attended school there as well.During WW II, Mr. Bernard worked as a welder for the defense department. He later worked as a shoe cutter at the former Mayberry Shoe Co. of Rochester, NH for 25 years and then as a custodian at St. Thomas school from 1972 to 1975 retiring from there.He was a communicant of St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, Notre Dame Church in Springvale, a member of the Springvale Knights of Columbus, the Sanford Lodge of Elks and past president of the Sanford -Springvale Fish and Gun club.Joseph was predeceased by his wife Corinne (Auger) Bernard in 1975.Survivors are three daughters, Louise L'Heureux and her husband Gilbert, Berthe Lajeunesse and Marie Bergeron and her husband Richard, all of Sanford. His brother Jean-Paul Bernard and his wife Loretta of Clinton, MA, his sister Monique Chaisson and her husband Robert of Wells. Eight grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren.Visiting hours will be Sunday 6-8 PM at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter St., Sanford.A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Monday at St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, Notre Dame Church in Springvale with burial to follow in Notre Dame cemetery.To leave the family a message of condolence please use the "condolences" tab to the left.
