Maurice F. Therrien

Maurice F. Therrien, 86, of Sanford died on Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough. Maurice was born in Sanford on October 23, 1926 to Alphonse and Odile (Mercier) Therrien and attended Holy Family School. After school he worked for several years at Genest Concrete in Sanford before he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he proudly served his country for over 20 years. Maurice worked as a metal smith while serving in the military and eventually worked his way up to a welding instructor before he retired. After leaving the military he relocated to Ohio where he met and married Helen Lendecker. While living in Ohio he worked as a welder for Art Iron. After his wife Helen passed away, Maurice returned to Maine. While attending church he met Jeanne d'Arc Gagnon and the two were married about one year later in 2001. Maurice enjoyed fishing, working on his lawn and flower gardens, going strawberry picking, bowling and having fun. He was a very social man with many friends. He will be remembered as a generous and loving person and he will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Maurice was predeceased by his first wife, Helen Therrien in 1993. Surviving are his wife, Jeanne d'Arc Therrien of Sanford; a stepson, Dale Ashby of Portland; a step-daughter, Kathleen Murray of Delta, Ohio and several grandchildren; seven siblings, Bertrand Therrien of Manchester, New Hampshire, Cecile Letourneau of Sanford, Therese Deschenes of Sanford, Lorraine Legere of Sanford, Joseph Aldage Therrien of Sanford, Joseph Robert Therrien of Sanford and Carmelle Morin of South Berwick; a brother-in-law, Roland Normand and his wife Mary Ellen of Sanford and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 PM on Sunday, March 24th at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home located at 29 Winter Street in Sanford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Monday, March 25th at St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church located on North Avenue in Sanford. Burial with military honors will be later in the spring at St. Ignatius Cemetery in Sanford.
