Cecile Plante Therrien, 92, a longtime resident of Sanford, died October 27 at Varney Crossing in North Berwick.She was born in Canada on December 11, 1915, the daughter of Adelard and Octavie (Jolibois) Gouin. She moved to Sanford with her family in early childhood, attended Holy Family School and was a longtime communicant of St. Therse Parish, Holy Family Church.A woman of endless energy and great wit, she was a dedicated mother, grandmother and great grandmother who enjoyed sewing and baking for her family.She worked at the Universal Shoe Shop for over 30 years.Cecile was predeceased by her first husband of 40 years, Romeo A. Plante, and by a daughter in law, Dolly Plante.She is survived by 6 children, Robert Plante of Sanford, Sister Aline Plante, p.m. of Biddeford Pool, Raymond Plante and his wife Irene of Sanford, Patricia Thibodeau and her husband Hank of Springvale, Rita Plante-Pelletier of Sanford, Theresa Cote and her husband Mark of Springvale, 13 grandchildren, and more than 20 great grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother, Sylvio Gouin, a sister, Lucienne King and several nieces and nephews.She was predeceased by her second husband, Pete Therrien in 2005. She is survived by his son Peter, his wife Terri and their son Colby. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter Street, Sanford on Thursday from 4-7 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be concelebrated on Friday at 11 AM at St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church in Sanford, with the Most Reverend Michael R. Cote, D.D., principal celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Ignatius Cemetery, Sanford. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the staff of Varney Crossing in North Berwick who had become Cecile's extended family in the past year that she was a resident there. Their care and support was a great comfort and their kindness will always be remembered. We also wish to extend our gratitude to the Hospice staff for their comfort and compassion through this difficult time.Condolences may be expressed at the Condolences tab at left.
