Kathleen Leslie Sturtevant, 17, of Shapleigh, passed away at home on Tuesday, November 6, 2007. Kathleen was born on April 19, 1990, in Sanford, a daughter of Danny R. and Susan L. (Spencer) Sturtevant. Katie, a child with Down's Syndrome, had an unexpected diagnosis of Primary Pulmonary Hypertension in 1993, but had a remarkably wonderful quality of life for ten more years. Katie was a good-natured girl with more charm than anyone and "a song in her heart", loving music and dance, Disney and Pixar, camping and a day at the river. She especially loved parties with family and friends- and she made a friend of everyone she ever met.Although in recent, she had become increasingly impaired and restricted by her PPH, she was always happy and never complained. As anticipated, Katie was quickly overcome by a sudden cardiac event. She is now "living in Jesus' house" with her beloved Grampa, Parker Spencer, formerly of Kennebunk. She is also predeceased by her grandparents, Raymond and Verna Sturtevant. She is survived by her parents, Danny and Susan Sturtevant and one brother, James Sturtevant of Shapleigh, Maine. Katie is also survived by her grandmother, Arlene Spencer, formerly of Kennebunk, Fred and Barbara (Spencer) Jewell and family, Michael and Dotti Spencer, Richard and Diane (Spencer) Norton and family, Patrick and Kathleen Spencer and family, Herb and Joan Fernald and family, Tex and Donna (Fernald) Hansen and family, Harold and Nancy Fernald Brooks and family, Stephen and Tina Fernald and family, and David Sturtevant and family. Dear friends Katie leaves behind are her church family at Shapleigh First Baptist, the Smith family, Carolyn, the Cormier family, Dr. Dave, Dr. Gary, Greg, Liz, Dr. Hourihan, Mary Ellen and "My Susan".Visiting hours for Katie will be on Friday, November 9th from 2-4 and 6-8pm at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street in Springvale.
