Gerard L. St. Pierre Sr., 82, of Springvale, Me. died on Sunday, October 4, 2009 at the Newton Center in Sanford surrounded by his family. Gerard was born in Sanford on November 11, 1926 to Maurice and Albertine Larose St. Pierre. He attended Holy Family Parochial School and worked in the local mills prior to serving in the U. S. Army during World War II. His military service was a springboard to his lifelong career as a truck driver, working primarily with the Paul V. Adams and Auclair Trucking companies and finally for Genest Concrete Works in Sanford. Gerard was a devoted family man and took great pride in his grandchildren. He enjoyed maintaining and tinkering with anything that has a gas powered engine and viewed the mowing of his lawn as serious business. Gerard was a communicant of St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, Sanford/Springvale. He was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan and enjoyed taking day trips with his wife in his retirement truck. Gerard will be remembered as a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Lorraine (Grondin) St. Pierre; two daughters, Denise and Lisa; three sons, Ron, Roger and Gerry; a brother, Robert; a sister, Lorraine; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9:30 AM on Saturday, October 10th at St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, Notre Dame Church, located on Payne Street in Springvale. Burial will take place at a later date at the Southern Maine Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Springvale. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the American Lung Association of Maine, 122 State Street, Augusta, ME 04330-5615.
