Barbara Smith

Barbara Wilson Smith (or Sandy as many knew her) died suddenly on Tuesday February 28, 2017, at Southern Maine Health Center in Biddeford after a brief illness. Barbara was born November 10, 1931 in Waltham, Massachusetts to Kenneth Ingersoll and Mae Sangeleer Wilson. She was a 1949 graduate of Arlington High School and received her Secretarial degree from Burdette College in Boston, MA. She lived and worked for many years in the Littleton and Tewksbury, MA area. In 1971, she moved to California where she worked as a Certified Nurses Aid in the San Diego area. Barbara eventually made her way back to her beloved New England and settled in the Sanford, ME area where she met the love of her life, Edward (Don) Vezina. They made their home in Acton, Maine with their Maine Coon cat "Shadow."Barbara's greatest joy was being homemaker and loving partner to Don. She was the proud mother of four children: Danny Williams (deceased), David Williams (Terry) Dracut, MA, Holly Tucker (Michael) Norco, CA, and Carolyn Hatfield (Larry), Athens, GA. She was step-mother to Don's daughters, Judy Vezina of Alfred, ME and Cathy Good of Moore, OK. She was sister to Bill Wilson (Betty Sue), Walterboro, SC. Grandmother to Sean Coker, Nevada City, CA; Alexandra Sanders, Okinawa, Erica Dalton, Athens, GA, and Ryan and Marissa Williams, Dracut, MA; Step-grandmother to Kristen Ingalls of Norco, CA, and Dustin Hentges, Brea, CA; Great-grandmother to McKenzie Redish and Brock Dalton, Athens, GA, Mason Williams, Dracut, MA and Gracie and Tre Sanders, Okinawa. She was step-grandmother to Aiden, Jameson, and Own Ingalls, Norco, CA. She was aunt to Beth Wilson Friend and Ricky Wilson, Walterboro, SC as well as cousin to many Sangeleers and Wilsons.Barbara had many friends scattered throughout the US and Canada and enjoyed spending time visiting with them, especially her extensive family in Grand Manan, Canada. No matter where she was she enjoyed spending time with her many friends and family, reading, going to flea markets, cooking, collecting quilts. She was absolutely thrilled when she found "the perfect bargain". Sandy attended church at the First Baptist Church in Sanford Maine.Barbara will be sadly missed by her family and friends but she lived her life the way she wanted and didn't want a fuss made at her passing. In respect of her wishes, their will be a private cremation with a celebration of life and pot-luck supper at the home of Judy Vezina, 24 Back Road, Alfred, Maine on Friday, March 3rd from 4pm-7pm.We would like to express our sincere thanks and gratitude to all of the doctors and nurses on the 4th floor/ICU who took exemplary care of Barbara and Don during her hospitalization.We will not say "goodbye" to those we love, but rather "see you later!"
