Dwina Regina Smith, 91, of Falmouth, died peacefully in her sleep on February 14, 2009 at The Cedars Rehabilitation Center in Portland after a long illness. She was born on April 30, 1917 in Smyrna Mills, the third of eight children born to Grover C. and Edna (Terrio) Morrison and attended Smyrna Mills schools. After graduation from high school she began a career as a hairdresser and also worked for many years as a receptionist and dental assistant in Portland. She was devoutly Christian and lived a simple, pious life. She was a long time member of the Central Square Baptist Church in Portland. For many years, she sang in the church choir and spent a great deal of time devoted to religious study, meditation and prayer, especially in her retirement years. She is survived by her brother, Cleveland Morrison of Waterville, her sister, Ona P. Morrison of Plymouth, MA and several nieces, including Carol Morrison, and a dear friend Nancy Young, both of whom provided much comfort, loving care and kindness to Dwina in her last years. She is also survived by her son, Barry Smith, of Dover, NH, four grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at Central Square Baptist Church, 4 Brentwood Street in Portland on Saturday, August 8 at 10:00 AM with Pastor Daryl Lavway officiating. Interment will follow in Winterport.
