Richard H. Shaw, 83, of East Waterboro died at his home on Saturday August 10th.Mr. Shaw was born in Auburn, ME on January 17, 1919. Shortly after his birth he and his family moved to Sanford, ME. As a child he attended local schools and graduated from Hebron Academy.Mr. Shaw was one of the area's most progressive dairy farmers. For many years he operated Shaw's Ridge Farm, and was one of the first dairy farmers in the country to study at Cornell University in order to implement an artificial insemination program for cattle. All of his hard work was recognized by his ability to raise prize winning dairy cows.Beside his work Mr. Shaw greatly enjoyed the company of his wife, children, and grandchildren. He enjoyed woodworking, photography, bird watching, boating, fishing, hiking and ski trips, and just spending time at the lake. Predeceasing him is his son Dan.Surviving are his wife, and best friend of 59 years Olive Chadbourne Shaw, their son Richard Shaw of Springvale, two daughters, Peggy Titherington of E. Waterboro, and Nancy Troubh of Poland, ME, 8 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.An 11:00 AM graveside service for Mr. Shaw will be held on Tuesday, August 13, 2002 at the Riverside Cemetery in Springvale.In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, Prostate Cancer Research, 1 Main St. Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086.
