ROBERT STANLEY SHAW, Sr.SPRINGVALERobert S. Shaw, Sr., 75, of 8 Lucerne Street, died Friday, June 15, 2001 at Goodall Hospital in Sanford following several months of declining health. He was born in Springvale, January 15, 1926, a son of Wilbur G. and Florence (Stanley) Shaw, and had lived in Sanford and Springvale all his life.He attended local schools and graduated from Sanford High School in 1944. He enlisted in the Army Air Force in WWII and served state side. He returned to Sanford in 1946 and began working for his father at Wilbur G. Shaw Hardware. He married Jacqueline A. Goodrich on June 15, 1947. Even though he was ill, the first thing he said to Jackie the morning of his death was "Happy Anniversary" on their 54th anniversary.He became the owner of the hardware store in 1982 and retired in 1995 after 50 years in the business. He earned the industry's Golden Hammer award.He served on the board of directors and was past president of the New England Hardware Dealers Association. He served as a director at Sanford Institution for Savings. He was a member and former trustee of the Shapleigh First Baptist Church, and was a former member of the First Baptist Church of Springvale. He was a former volunteer and treasure for 25 years of the Sanford Call Firefighters and was a 50 year member of Preble Lodge, AF & AM of Sanford.He is survived by his wife, Jackie, of Springvale: two sons, Stephen, and his wife Linda, Shaw of Sanford and Robert S. Shaw, Jr. of Leominster, MA: a daughter, Pamela, and her husband Andrew,Bors of Alfred: two sisters, Barbara, and her husband Arnold, Glidden of Brandywine, MD and Jacqueline Walker of Madison, OH and 5 grandchildren.Friends may gather from 2-4 & 7-9 Monday at the Heald Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale, ME. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday at the First Baptist Church of Springvale. Rev. Les Dorr of Shapleigh will officiate, assisted by Rev. Kenneth Keating. A gathering for fellowship and refreshments will follow in the church vestry. Private interment will be in Oakdale Cemetery, Sanford.
