Paul E. Seavey, age 81, of Sanford, died September 24, 2017 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House after a brief illness.He was born in Rochester, NH on April 13, 1936, a son of Ernest and Alexina (Ferland) Seavey, attended local schools and graduated from Spaulding High School in 1954.He married Stella Rodrigue at St. Ignatius Church on November 22, 1962. He continued to reside in Sanford since that time as well as at his summer home at Wells Beach.Paul was a retired teacher and school administrator. He earned degrees from Plymouth State College, Gorham State College and was awarded an Economics Fellowship from Union College in Schenectady, N.Y. He did advanced graduate studies at University of Southern Maine.His career included: Principal and teacher at Barnstead (NH) Elementary School, Assistant Principal and teacher at American Schools in Germany, Teacher of Economics, U.S. History and Psychology at Spaulding High School in Rochester, NH, Director of Adult Education and Assistant Principal at Spaulding High School Assistant Principal at Sanford High School and Principal of Biddeford High School from 1973 to until his retirement from education in 1990.Paul was a member of the Maine and National Principals Association and served on various committees including the Executive Committee of the Maine State Principals Association.In 1989, he was one of nine Principals in the U.S. to receive the Award for Leadership from The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. for the development of Fine Arts Studies at the high school level. He was a communicant of St. Ignatius Church where he served on the Parish Council. He was responsible for the planning and implementation of several maintenance and construction projects for the Parish Council He served on the St. Thomas School Board for a number of years and as president during his final three years. In 2003, the St. Thomas School Parent's Organization presented him with an Award of Appreciation and Recognition for service to the school.His greatest joy was supporting and encouraging his family in their needs and endeavors and being of service to others.He was predeceased by his daughter, Kathleen, in 1967.He is survived by his wife, Stella, of 55 years, daughters, Suellen and her husband Mike Troup of Florida and Maine, and Karen and her husband Jim MacNeill of Wells, Maine, a brother James Seavey of Florida and a sister Adele Timmins of NH, grandchildren, Alicia Bell of Florida, Stephanie Burk of Iowa,J. Chandler MacNeill of Wells, and Braeden MacNeill of Wells, great grandchildren, Sullivan Bell of Florida and Rosalyn Burk of Iowa and many, many loving nieces and nephews. At his request, there will be no visiting hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, September 28, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church, 66 North Avenue, Sanford. Burial will be private.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Maine Children's Cancer Program c/o Maine Medical Center Philanthropy Dept. 22 Bramhall St. Portland, Maine 04102 and /or Gosnell Memorial Hospice House 11, Hunnewell Rd.
