Gloria Schwickrath

Gloria Schwickrath, 79, of Old Orchard Beach passed away at her home on February 12, 2015.She was born in Bronx, New York on October 1, 1935 to Michael and Elizabeth (Googasian) Torosian, where she grew up and attended local schools. In 1956, Gloria married Harold Schwickrath and together they raised three daughters. In 1976 the family moved to New Jersey where they lived for many years. In 1995, after 39 years of marriage, Harold passed away.Gloria moved to Maine in 2001 and lived with her daughter and son-in-law and worked at their bed and breakfast, Atlantic Birches Inn, in Old Orchard Beach.There were many interests for this active woman, some of which included volunteering at the Saco Food Pantry, as well at the Merrill Auditorium in Portland. She was an avid reader who supported her local library. Gloria loved foreign films and traveling. She took several trips to Europe, and her favorite was to Ireland. She was a member of the First Parish Congregational Church in Saco.Surviving are her daughters, Kim Schwickrath and her husband Jeff Gray of Old Orchard Beach, Kris Schwickrath of Shelbyville, Indiana, Nancy Schwickrath and her husband Kelly Green of Cave Junction Oregon, a brother, Tom Torosian, two sisters, Peggy Difrisco and Elizabeth Gutierrez and several beloved nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she is predeceased by a sister, Ruth (Anna) Rossini.A memorial service will be held at the First Parish Congregational Church, 12 Beach Street, Saco on Friday, February 20 at 2:00 PM.
