Marie M. Schanz

Marie M. Schanz, 87, of South Berwick died on Monday, February 9, 2009, at Wentworth Douglas Hospital in Dover.Marie was born in Cicero, Illinois on May 18, 1921 to James and Theresa (Sindelar) Moller and attended local schools. She was a 1939 graduate of J. Sterling Morton High School where she was president of the Girls' Athletic Association. She worked as a secretary at the First Federal Savings and Loan in Des Plains, IL. In 1945, she married Cecil Schanz and together they had two children. Her husband passed away in 1957 and she continued to work and raise her family as a single parent. In 1984 she moved to Maine to be closer to her family.Marie was an avid swimmer and enjoyed playing the piano, sewing and reading. When she was younger, she liked to go to Chicago with her friends to listen and dance to big band music. She will be remembered as a very hard working person, as well as a kind and loving mother and grandmother and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.Surviving are her daughter, Cheri Greable of Scarborough; her son, Noel Schanz and his wife Barbara of Pismo Beach, California; three grandsons, William Greable and his wife Sara of Arlington, MA, Adam and Erich Schanz both of California; a granddaughter, Lisa Greable and her husband Jason Snowdeal of Saco; two great grandchildren, Abigail and William P. Greable of Arlington, MA.A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday, February 13th at Lafrance Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter Street in Sanford.
