Richard T. Russell, (Dick) 79, of Sanford, ME passed away at home on September 6, 2007, surrounded by family. Richard was born on July 11, 1928 in Babylon, NY, son of Fred and Mildred Russell Sr. He spent his early years in Auburn, ME, graduating from Edward Little High School in 1946 and was proud to have been a part of the winning track and field team under coach Oswald Sparsam.Richard was a Korean War Veteran serving as a Sergeant in the US Army. While serving he received the Korean Service Metal with two Bronze Service Stars and also received the United Nations Service Medal. After serving his country, his career was spent in the retail food industry, spanning a career that began as a meat cutter for A&P in Norway, ME and progressed to include store supervisor and area sales manager for Hannaford's and Associated Grocers of New England. During his career, Richard also owned two grocery stores, Russell's Shop n Save in Saco, ME and the Shopping Cart Food Center in Keene, NH. In 1990 he retired from NH Provisions as area sales/marketing manager. Richard's greatest passions in life were his family and summers spent at his cottage on Bear Pond in Hartford, ME.Richard is predeceased by his parents, his first wife Constance Marr, and a brother, the Reverend Fred Russell Jr. Richard is survived by his loving wife of 45 years Ann Trundy Russell of Sanford; two sisters, Madeline Jordan of Lewiston, ME and Geneva Raymond of Livermore, ME; five daughters, Pam (Bruce) Davison of West Paris, ME, Sherry (Steve) Cummings of Nashua, NH, Wendy Russell (Tim) Verrill, Lisbon, ME, Susan (Lou) Goulet of Mechanic Falls, ME, and Kimberly (Phil) Hilton of Wilton, ME; three sons, Marc (Sharon) Russell of Pembroke, NH, Toby (Lorrie) Russell of Merrimack, NH, and Michael (Marilou) Russell of Seabrook, NH; 19 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and one like a brother to Richard, G. Ted Ellis of Scarborough, ME. His dedicated and loving cat, Cuddles, also survives him.Visiting hours will be Monday, September 10, 2007 from 5 to 8pm at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home in Springvale, ME. Funeral services will be Tuesday, September 11, 2007 at 11:00 am at the North Parish Congregational Church in Sanford Maine. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the North Parish Congregational Church Hymnal Fund at 893 Main Street in Sanford, ME where Richard was an active member of the church and choir.To leave a message of condolence please use the "condolences" tab to the left.
