Robert J. Roy, 92, of Sanford, died on Monday, July 19, 2010 at the Greenwood Center in Sanford.Robert was born in Biddeford on March 9, 1918 to Victor and Dorothy (Leroux) Roy and attended St. Louis School. After school he worked at the Pepperell Textile Mills in Biddeford where he was employed until he joined the military, serving in World War II. After serving in the military Robert moved to Sanford and went to work for Cyro where he was employed for 30 years. In 1946 he married Lillian Gagne and together they would spend the next 59 years. Robert was a 33 year member of the Sanford Knights of Columbus 3rd and 4th Degree, a 42 year member of the American Legion and a 36 year member of the Sanford Elks Lodge. He enjoyed helping the clubs with many fund raising activities, particularly the tootsie roll drive for the Knights of Columbus or anything that benefited children. Robert was an avid newspaper reader and also enjoyed puttering around the house and growing fruits and vegetables. He will be remembered as a kind and loving uncle and friend and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.Robert was predeceased by his wife Lillian 2005 and by 10 brothers and sisters.Surviving are seven nieces and nephews, Richard Roy and his wife Pat of Biddeford, Susan Wingate and her husband Gerry of Lexington, KY, Diane Edmondson and her husband George on Greenville, Gerard L'Heureux and his wife Nancy of Alfred, Rachel Buchala of Sanford, Rene Roy and his wife Francoise of Biddeford and Ron Roy and his wife Marie of Scarborough.Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday, July 23rd at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter Street in Sanford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 24 at St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church located on North Avenue in Sanford.
