Mark E. Rogers

Mark E. Rogers, 65, of Alfred, passed away on December 5th, 2018 after battling prostate cancer and peritoneal carcinomatosis, a very brief illness. Born to Glenn H. Rogers and Jean F. Caldwell on April 29th, 1953. Mark was born and raised in Sacramento, CA before residing in Maine. Mark attended the Maine Criminal Justice Academy 47th Municipal/County Basic Police School in Waterville from the beginning of September to the end of November in 1983. Mark was elected class treasurer. He was hired with the Wells Police Department on March 24th, 1983 and after serving for 32 years, retired on May 18th, 2015. During his career, he served as a K-9 handler, Police Officer, and Evidence Technician. In 1986 Mark was instrumental in starting the Wells Police K-9 Program with his first dog Bodo and then Vax. Out of the many accomplishments in his career, Mark was awarded a Commendation of Meritorious Service for his part in saving the lives on two young girls on April 11th, 2006. After retirement, he became a Deputy Judicial Marshal on July 6th, 2015. Mark was a private man when it came to his personal life, but true to his unique, witty character in keeping those around him smiling with his sense of humor. He was a man of his word, a calm voice in even the most disrupting of times. When he wasn't spending time with his family, you could find him on the golf course, enjoying a good NASCAR race, and educating others on any historical event that has ever taken place. He cherished family ancestry and was known for his impromptu phrases such as, " 10-8-civil," and the term, "SHPELK." He is predeceased by his mother, Jean Caldwell.He is survived by his daughters, Kassandra (Rogers) Sanford and husband Brett; MaKayla Rogers, and grandson Cole Sanford. He is also survived by his father Glenn Rogers and his wife Jose; sister Kathy Trapp and her husband Mike; brother Doug Rogers. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday, December 12th from 4 to 7PM at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale.
