J. Everett Ridley
J. Everett "Red" Ridley, Jr., 94, of Springvale, passed away on Thursday October 12, 2006 at the Newton Center in Sanford. He was born in Sanford on May 17, 1912, a son of Joseph Everett Sr., and Verna (Jellison) Ridley.He attended local schools and graduated from Sanford High School. He then served in the United States Army during WWII. For many years along with his business partner, Bob Smith, they co-owned and operated Stanley Hardware in Springvale. Prior to this he had been employed by Mapes Oil.He was a lifelong member of the Springvale Masonic Lodge #190 AF & AM, York County Shriners Club, Pioneer Club-Scottish Rite, and the Kora Temple. At one time he had served on the Board for Riverside Cemetery in Springvale.He is predeceased by his first wife, Orrie (Ogden) Ridley who passed away in 1982. He is also predeceased by one sister, Arlene Hewey.He is survived by his second wife, Catherine (Crowley) Ridley of Springvale, one daughter, Patricia Beals of Springvale, one son, Richard Bowen of Kennebunk, three grandchildren, Laurie Beals, Eric Beals and Tim Beals, 4 great grandchildren, one nephew, Brian Richards, two nieces, Ellen and Lisa.Visiting hours will be on Sunday October 15 from 6 to 8pm at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street in Springvale. A funeral service will be held on Monday at 2pm at the North Parish Congregational Church in Sanford. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Springvale.In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in his memory to the Shriners Hospital, Blossom Street, Boston, MA 02114.Condolences may be expressed by using the tab at the left.
