Cecil J. Ricker
Cecil J. Ricker, 95, of Lyman, passed away on Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at the Greenwood Center in Sanford. He was born in Sanford, on January 27, 1914, a son of Edward C. and Ella M. (Baker) Ricker.A partner in E.C. Ricker & Sons in Alfred, he carried on his father's potato business until 1964 when he moved his family to Lyman and started Ricker Farm. Cecil was involved in the community serving as selectman, assessor and overseer of the poor for six years beginning in 1964.He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Farm Bureau and the York County Soil Conservation District. In 1959 he was named outstanding conservation farmer of the year. In 2005 the York County Agricultural Association recognized Cecil for his contributions to agriculture in York County.He is predeceased by a brother, Colby N. Ricker and a sister, Pauline DeHaven.He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Sarah W. (Hammond) Ricker of Lyman, his children; Sandra L. Caron of Lyman, Timothy A. Ricker and his wife, and Joanne of Lyman, Margaret S. Quilty and her husband, Charles of Natick, MA. He is also survived by a brother, Gerard C. Ricker of Acton, five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.At the request of the family a graveside service will be held in the spring at Evergreen Cemetery in Alfred.Contributions may be made in Cecil's memory to the Goodwin's Mills Fire-Rescue, 481 Goodwin's Mills Road, Lyman, Maine 04002.Arrangements are under the direction of the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale.
