Ruby Mae Reid, 81, of Acton, passed away at the Goodall Memorial Hospital in Sanford, on September 6, 2013. A quiet woman, with a great smile and love for her family and pets, has left our world.Ruby was born on February 24, 1932, in East Rochester, NH, to Roy T. and Bessie M. Abbott. She grew up in Lebanon, Maine, at the old family farm, and graduated from Sanford High School. She worked as a telephone operator and then became a CNA, providing home health care. Ruby had fun dancing, sewing, and cooking. She enjoyed attending fairs and doing embroidery.Ruby was the only surviving member of her immediate family and was predeceased by her parents, her husband Roland, her brother Arthur, and her brother Franklin. She is survived by her sisters-in-law, Lois Abbott and Erla Abbott Smith; one nephew and five nieces and their spouses: Thomas and Kristine Abbott, Janet Perry, Sandra and Kam Mun, Deborah and Dennis Wilbur, Karen Abbott, and Tammy and Jerry Tindel; and twelve great-nieces and nephews.A memorial service for Ruby will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at 12:00 noon at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main St., Springvale, with visiting hour beginning at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at the Forest Grove Cemetery in Lebanon.Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider donations in her memory to the Acton Veterinary Clinic, 470 Youngs Ridge Road, Acton, ME 04001.Condolences may be expressed at www.blackfuneralhomes.com
