Beryl Beattie Reeks, 95, passed away Tuesday, February 19, 2008 surrounded by her loving family.She was born on May 17, 1912 in Sanford, the eldest of seven children born to Edward and Thirzah (Tebbetts) Beattie. She was a member of North Parish Congregational Church. She was involved in many organizations including the Eastern Star, Girl Scouts, Red Cross Motor Corps during World War II and the Goodall Hospital Auxiliary. She was also a Past Regent of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a member of the Sons and Daughters of Nathan Lord. Beryl was a supporter of many charitable organizations.She married Walter Reeks in 1934 and together they raised three daughters. In their later years, they traveled between homes in Maine and Florida. She enjoyed cooking, entertaining, reading, family and her kitties. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister and Nana. She was admired, loved and respected by her family and friends and will be sadly missed by all. Her devoted granddaughter Sara-Jane spent many years visiting with her and assisting with her care.She is predeceased by her husband Walter, brother Edward Beattie, sister Beatrice Beattie and sister Beverly Vezina. She is survived by her daughters Rebecca Svendsen and her husband Arthur of Florida, Mary-Ellen Normand and her husband Roland of Springvale, Sarah Clough and her fiance Tony Calabro of Florida, her siblings Bryce Beattie and his wife Abbott of North Berwick, Tirzah MacKay of Sanford, Dr. Charles Beattie and his wife Georgia of Sanford. She was the loving Nana of seven grandchildren, Randy Small of Washington, Ellen Guerin and her husband Mark of Florida, Sara-Jane Normand of Sanford, Jonathan Normand of Cape Elizabeth, Erin Therrien and her husband Jeffrey of Springvale, Matthew Clough of Florida and Genna Clough of CaliforniaA private graveside service will be held in the spring at Oakdale Cemetery in Sanford. Arrangements are under the direction of the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale.Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 6931 Arlington Road, Bethesda, MD 20814.
