Elinor L. Reed
Elinor Louise Reed, 75, of West Newfield, passed away on Thursday January 10, 2008 at the Goodall Hospital in Sanford following a short illness. Elinor was born in Limington, Maine on September 14, 1932. She was the loving daughter of Francis and Dorthea Lear (Tufts).She attended Limington Academy, where she played for the basketball team, and graduated in 1949. Elinor worked for General Electric; as Post Master at the West Newfield Post Office; and was the business manager and bookkeeper of the family school business for 25 years. She also belonged to the Newfield Fire Department Ladies' Auxiliary.Elinor enjoyed watching Boston Red Sox and Atlanta Braves games with her beloved husband, Clinton She made many of her life-time friends through her favorite hobby of bowling, and was also a member of the Eastern Star, Ruth Chapter #14, O.E.S. In her spare time, Elinor loved working in her garden every day through spring and summer with Clinton, and making 60 quarts of world famous pizza sauce every season, to be enjoyed by all through the most famous pizza in all of Maine.Family and close friends were the most important thing to Elinor, and she was very proud of the family and extended family she and Clinton raised. Elinor leaves behind her loving and devoted husband, Clinton H. Reed, her three sons, Larry Reed and his wife, Bonnie of West Newfield, Gary Reed of Duluth, Georgia, and Greg Reed and his wife, Karen of West Newfield. "Grammy" is also survived by her seven adoring grandchildren; Michelle McFarland of Port Richie, FL, Keith Reed of Biddeford, April and Abby Reed of Duluth, GA, and Lee, Patrick and Laura Goodrich of Newfield. Elinor leaves behind her brother, Stanley Lear Sr., of Westbrook.Visiting hours will be held on Saturday from 12noon to 1pm at the West Newfield Congregational Church with a funeral service at 1pm at the ChurchIn lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Newfield Fire Department or to the American Cancer Society.Arrangements are under the direction of the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street in Springvale.To leave a message of condolence for the family, please click on the condolence tab to the left.
