Donald E. Rand
Donald E. Rand, 79, of Lebanon, died on May 18, 2009 at the Colonial Hill Nursing Home in Rochester, New Hampshire.Donald was born in Lebanon on January 24, 1930 to Fred and Isabelle (Grant) Rand and attended local schools. He was a 1947 graduate of Sanford High School. In 1949 he joined the U.S. Navy. He served for one year in active duty and then for five years in the Naval Reserves. In 1955, he married Jacqueline Downs who he spent the rest of his life with. He worked for 25 years at Great Falls Sheet Metal in Rochester and then went to work at the Portsmouth Naval Ship Yard where he stayed for 22 years until retiring in 1995.Donald enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid sports fan. He was particularly fond of the New England Sports teams including the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. He was a member of the North Lebanon Second Baptist Church. Donald liked to travel and would often go off on day trips with his wife. He will be remembered as a kind and loving husband, brother and uncle and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.Donald was predeceased by his parents and by a brother, Charles Rand.Surviving are his wife, Jacqueline Rand of Lebanon; a sister, Gladys Randall of Lebanon; two brothers, Everett Rand of Ashtabula, Ohio and Richard Rand of Gray; a brother-in -law, James Downs of Derry, New Hampshire; a sister-in-law, Patricia Gagne of Somersworth, New Hampshire and several nieces and nephews.An hour of visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 AM with a funeral service following at 11:00 AM on Friday May 22nd at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street in Springvale. Interment will follow at the Forrest Grove Cemetery in Lebanon.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Lebanon Fire and Rescue, P.O.
