Robert (Bob) Allen Prevost passed away peacefully on January 29th 2020 in Sanford, Maine after a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his father, Homer J. Prevost, his mother Lillian V. Prevost, his brother Homer J. Prevost Jr. (Pete) and his niece Cynthia Prevost (Davis).Bob was born on September 18th 1946 in Portland, Maine. He graduated from South Portland High School in 1964. Upon graduating, he enlisted into the United States Navy as an Electronics and Radar Technician. He was deployed to the Gulf of Tonkin aboard the U.S.S. MacCaffrey, (DD860) during the Vietnam War from 1967-1968.After honorably separating from the Navy, Bob returned to Maine where he began working at Rigby Yard in South Portland. He attended the University of Southern Maine and earned an Associate's Degree in Accounting and a Bachelor's Degree in Business. He was promoted to Train Dispatcher and worked at Union Station in Portland for the Maine Central Railroad and Springfield Terminal Railway Company in North Billerica, Massachusetts where he would retire after 38 years.Bob enjoyed reading, golfing, playing pool and was an active member of the American Legion Post #19 in Sanford. He held many positions there including the Service Officer, Treasurer, and Sergeant of Arms. Being part of the American Legion was very important to him and he considered many members of the Post as his very close friends.Bob is survived by his daughter, Kelly, his son, Joseph, his daughter-in-law, Christy, 2 grandchildren, 5 nieces and nephews, and numerous great nieces and nephews.A graveside service will be held at the Southern Maine Veterans Cemetery in Springvale in the spring. Specific dates and times are to be announced. His Celebration of Life will be held immediately afterward at the American Legion Post #19 in Springvale.In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Legion Post #19, 656 Main St. Springvale, ME 04083.To leave a message of condolence click tab at left.
