Mathieu J. Poster
Mathieu Judson Poster passed away in W. Newfield, Maine at the age of 43. Mathieu was born in Harrisonburg, Virginia. He is predeceased by his father, Marvin B. Poster and his brother, Jord W. Poster.Mathieu is survived and lovingly remembered by his mother, Lois P. Poster; sister, Elisa Shannon, her husband, Brad Shannon; his nephews, Will and Ben Poster, their mother, Allison Poster; his many friends and colleagues.He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from the Maine College of Art, and a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Rochester Institute of Technology. Mathieu was a talented and passionate sculptor. He worked in marble, wood and metal, which was his medium of preference. Many of his larger than life metal sculptures were commissioned works and are displayed in locations throughout the country. He was also an accomplished photographer and painter. He brought creativity into every aspect of his life, from cooking and music to his keen sense of humor. He became the manager of the Carving Studio and Sculpture Center in W. Rutland VT in 2004, and continued to teach there through the years. He has been teaching at the Maine College of Art since 2008. He was an inspiring educator and contributed greatly to the artistic communities in which he was involved.He will be sorely missed by all of us who love him.A memorial celebration of life will be held at the Maine College of Art on Saturday November 23 at 2:00 PM.
