Arnold J. Pierce
Arnold "Arnie" J. Pierce, 56, of Shapleigh, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, November 16, 2009 at his home. Born in Saco on June 4, 1953, he was a son of the late Charles and Doris (Driscoll) Pierce. He graduated from Massabesic High School in 1971. Arnold retired from the Portsmouth Navy Yard where he had been employed as a pipefitter. He then became owner and operator of Pierce's Garage, originally founded by his father.. Arnold's passion and drive for life led him to be involved in local clubs and organizations. He took leadership roles and was involved in many fundraising eventsHe was a member and past president of the Springvale Fish and Game. He was also Commander of the Son's of the American Legion in Sanford, member and current officer of the Lafayette Social Club, member of the Wolves Social Club, member of the Sanford and Springvale Social Club, Arundel Eagles, and the Sanford Elk's Lodge. This past year he led the bike ride for the MCCP (Maine Children's Cancer Program), and for the Vet's Center. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends at the family camp in Shirley, Maine.Arnold is predeceased by his parents, Charles and Doris Pierce. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Sue E. (Hines) Pierce of Shapleigh, a daughter, Carrie McConologue and her husband, Eddie of Newfield, a son, Joe Pierce of Shapleigh; five grandchildren, Caitlin and Luke Pierce, Jonathan, Nathan and Kylie McConologue, a sister, Joanne Tavner and her husband, Ron of Virginia and a brother, Barry Pierce and his wife, Karen of Shapleigh.Visiting hours for Arnold will be held on Friday, November 20 from 4 to 8PM at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter Street, Sanford. A Celebration of his life will take place on Saturday, November 21 at 10AM at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery in South Waterboro.In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Springvale Fish & Game, PO Box 69, Springvale, Maine 04083.
