Raymond W. Picard, 83, husband of Barbara Harty Picard died peacefully Saturday, March 10, 2007 after a lengthy illness.Raymond was born in Springvale, ME on April 30, 1923, the son of the late Melvena and Norbert Picard. He lived in Suffield, CT, Laporte, IN, Worcester, MA and up to the present time in New Smyrna Beach, FL. His summers were often spent at Mousam Lake in Shapleigh, ME.Mr. Picard was a graduate of Assumption Prep School, Assumption College and earned a Master's Degree at Wesleyan University. He was a service-connected veteran of the Korean War with a working career at Suffield Academy, Assumption Prep School, LaLumiere Prep School and Assumption College.Besides his wife of 53 years, he leaves two sons, Raymond R. Picard and Cheryl Lupoli and Peter J. Picard and his wife Gina; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild; a brother, Paul Picard of Dover, NH; three sisters, Viola Lamontagne of Sanford, ME, Simone Schaeffer of Yardley, PA and Pauline Woznicki of Trevose, PA and several nieces and nephews. Raymond was predeceased by a sister, Rita Sauve and brothers, Robert and Cyril Picard.A period of visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday, March 16, 2007 at Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, located at 580 Main Street in Springvale, ME. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 1:00 PM on Saturday, March 17, 2007 at St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, Notre Dame Church, located on Payne Street in Springvale. Interment will take place in the spring at Notre Dame Cemetery in Springvale. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be sent to Assumption College, 500 Salisbury St., Worcester, MA 01609.
