Annette Pennell, 87, of Springvale, passed away peacefully and joined the love of her life on April 17, 2010 at Goodall Hospital after a brief illness. She was born on December 10, 1922 in Springvale, Maine to Exilia Marie (Lavallee) and Albert Joseph Mathieu. She grew up in Maine but her parents were from Thetford Mines, Quebec and they visited often.In 1942, she met her future husband, Charles Vincent Pennell at a dance at the American Legion Hall in Springvale. "Charlie" was stationed in High Pine (Wells) at a small Army base during WWII. They both loved to tell the story of how Charlie walked from High Pine to Springvale to pay her a visit but Annette refused to see him. Not easily deterred, Charlie courted his "Annie" and they were married on May 4, 1946 at Notre Dame Church in Springvale.Charlie and Annette relocated to California and there raised their two sons. Annette worked for many years as an assembler for a computer company. After retirement in 1984, they rejoined their family in Maine. In her retirement, Annette volunteered for many years with Meals on Wheels and was a communicant of St. Ignatius Church in Sanford. Annette was predeceased by her parents, her husband Charlie, four siblings, Paul, Robert, Germaine and Gisele as well as nine children who died in their infancy. She is survived by her brother-in-law Lionel Allaire of Sanford and sister-in-law Florence Pennell of Babylon, New York; two sons, Jeffrey Carl Pennell of Michigan and Charles David Pennell and his wife, Susan of Wells, two daughters-in-law Dalal Morgan of Myrtle Beach, SC and Jill Pennell of Michigan and six grandchildren, Sarah Pennell of Boston, Elizabeth Nowak and her husband, Rafael of Boston, Timothy Pennell and his wife Danielle of Wells, Eric and Amira Pennell of South Carolina, and Madeline Pennell of Michigan. She is also survived by one great- grandson, Brady David Pennell of Wells, who brought her much joy in her final years.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 21st at 11 :00 AM at St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, Notre Dame Catholic Church located on Payne Street in Springvale. Burial will follow at Notre Dame Cemetery in Springvale.
