Clarence R. Paradis, 82, of Sanford died Tuesday, November 21, 2006 at Maine Medical Center in Portland.Clarence was born in Portage Lake, Maine on June 11, 1924 to Romeo and Aurore (Russell) Paradis. He was educated and attended schools in Fort Kent, Maine.On January 18, 1943, he was called upon to serve his country during World War II. He served in England, France and Germany. After his discharge in 1945, he moved to Old Orchard Beach. He stayed there until 1947 when he decided to reenlist in the army and make it a career. He retired in 1966 at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland after 22 years of military service. After his discharge, he was hired to work as a civilian employee for the department of the Army in Aberdeen, Maryland. He worked there as an explosive ordinance specialist. His primary duties were to render safe all types of munitions including biological and chemical agents that had become obsolete or too old for the troops to handle safely.Mr. Paradis retired again in 1985. In 1993, Mr. Paradis and his wife decided to leave Maryland and move to Sanford to be around family. Mr. Paradis enjoyed bowling and was an avid pool player, sometimes competing in local tournaments. His favorites pastime was working on crossword puzzles while watching baseball on television.Clarence was predeceased by 4 brothers, Richard, Camille, Reginald and Raymond.Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Marga Paradis, of Sanford, and many nieces and nephews.At Mr. Paradis's request, there will be no visiting hours. Interment will take place at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery following church services at the Fort Myer's Chapel in Virginia.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the American Heart Association 20 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.
