Delano E. Newcomb, 80, of Sanford, died on Thursday, February 25, 2016 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.Delano was born on March 15, 1935 to Whitney and Kathleen (Beal) Newcomb, Sr. in Jonesport, Maine where he grew up and attended local schools, graduating from Jonesport High School. During his working life he had served as a merchant Marine and been employed and Pratt and Whitney, the Baker Company and finally at Wasco in Sanford where he worked for over 30 years as a master sheet metal technical until he retired in 2005.Delano enjoyed woodworking, gardening and working in his yard. He was an outdoorsman, a very talented artist and especially enjoyed oil painting. He always liked to be busy and had a great love for animals, particularly his pets. He enjoyed frequenting the Third Alarm Diner in Sanford where he had many dear friends. Delano will be remembered as a kind and loving man with a gentle soul and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.Delano was predeceased by his wife, Crystal Newcomb and by a brother, Wandell Newcomb.Surviving are four sons, Scott Newcomb and his wife Nikki of Fitzgerald, Georgia, Michael Newcomb of North Carolina, John Newcomb of Kingsland, Georgia and Matthew Newcomb of Sanford; a brother, Whitney B. Newcomb, Jr. and his wife Thelma of Homasassa, Florida; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.At Delano's request there will be no funeral services.The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Hospice of Southern Maine and the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House for the care and compassion shown to Delano and his family during his illness.Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider sending a memorial contribution to the Humane Society of the United States, Dept.
