Henry Richmond "Dick" Neuville PhD, a painter of beautiful skies, passed away at home in Springvale on January 10th, 2015. Born February 24th, 1937 in Queens, NY, he was the son of the late H. Richmond Neuville and Mary White Neuville. He attended Blessed Sacrament Elementary School in Jackson Heights, All Hallows High School in the Bronx, and St. John's University in Jamaica, Queens. He entered the Navy shortly after graduation, attending Officers' Candidate School in Rhode Island. He was commissioned an Ensign upon graduation. A lover of languages and literature, he received his Master's Degree at Columbia University and his PhD at NYU in Comparative Literature. He married Kathleen Field in 1965, beginning an amazing love story spanning over fifty years. They have six children whom he is survived by: Anne Elisabeth and partner Lindsay, Henry Richmond (Rych) and wife Jaime, James Francis and wife Tracy, Patricia Claire, Matthew Edward, and Daniel Patrick. He is also survived by his beloved little sister, Rosemary Duffy, four Grandchildren: Tyler, Justin, Matthew Jr, and Sarah, her father Oliver, and loving nieces and nephews. He taught Comp Lit at Farleigh Dickinson and Queens College before moving his family to Maine in 1971 to teach English and Language Arts at the former Nasson College. After the closure of Nasson, Dick spent many years working as a Systems Analyst at SubMepp in Kittery. He returned to teaching part-time in his later years at the University of New Hampshire, Franklin Pierce, USM, St. Joseph's College, and was one of the founding members of the York County Technical College. He was a true renaissance man; fluent in several languages including: Latin, Greek, and Italian. He was a proficient artist - an avid painter, photographer, writer, and enjoyed reading, gardening, and building models. He was one of the founding members of the Sanford Springvale Art Association and past President of the Pastel Painters of Maine. His favorite poet was Dylan Thomas, though what he loved most was spending time with his family, camping, and travelling. He was a member of Notre Dame Parish in Springvale, Maine and served on the Parish Council and was a Lector and Eucharistic Minister for many years. Visiting hours will be on Thursday from 4 to 7PM at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10AM at St. Therese of Lisieux Parish, Notre Dame Church, Payne Street, Springvale. Burial with military honors will be in the spring at Notre Dame Cemetery in Springvale. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Sanford Art Association, 917 Main St., Sanford.
