Ernest "Ernie" Michael Nason, 55, beloved brother, uncle, and friend died suddenly at home in Westbrook on April 28, 2008.Ernie was born January 1, 1953 in Washington D.C., first child of Conrad and Anne Myrick Nason. As a child Ernie grew up on Air Force bases, instilling in him a love for travel. He graduated from Sanford High School I n1971 and from Nasson College in 1975. While in high school, Ernie won letters in wrestling and golf. He was also on the golf team in college, a passion that continued throughout his life. Ernie loved music and was an avid reader. Ernie spent much time after college traveling, living in California, Belgium, The Netherlands, Vermont, and New Hampshire. He returned to Maine in 1987. It was then that Ernie displayed a love and loyalty that marked him as the man he was. He lovingly helped to care for his father and then his mother for the next 20 years.Ernie was employed at Maine Medical Center at the time of his death, working in the lab. It was a job that he took great pride in. He often spoke of how life had brought him to that place where he could do his part to help people.Anyone who knew Ernie knew that the greatest love of his life was being Uncle E to Vanessa, Michael, and Andrew. They would say that he was indeed the world's best uncle.Ernest was pre-deceased by his parents, Anne and Conrad, and his brother, Kenneth. He is survived by his sister Mary Libbey, her husband Robert and their son Andrew all of East Waterboro, his sister-in-law Nancy Nason of Springvale, nephew Michael Nason of Springvale, niece Vanessa Nason of Boston, and by his aunt Gloria and uncle Laurent Bougie of Springvale and numerous cousins. Ernie is also survived by his many friends and co-workers.At Ernie's request there will be no visiting hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am, Friday, May 2, 2008 at St. Therse Parish, Notre Dame Church in Springvale. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that a random act of kindness in Ernie's name be performed. He would have liked it that we all reach out to each other.Arrangements are through the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home.
