Kathy A. Murphy, 60, of West Newfield, died at her home on Saturday, July 2, 2016.Kathy was born on February 16, 1956 to Arnold and Virginia (McKenna) Gray in Wayland, Massachusetts where she grew up and attended local schools, graduating from Wayland High School in 1974. Following high school she attended Shepard-Gill School of Nursing at Massachusetts General Hospital and received her nursing license. Kathy's career was devoted to caring for children as a pediatric nurse. She had been employed for many years at the Long Creek Youth Development Center in South Portland. She had also served as the Newfield town health officer for the past few years. In 1983 she married Paul Murphy and together they shared 33 years of marriage and raised one daughter.Kathy had a green thumb and enjoyed growing both flowers and vegetables. She was an excellent baker and had won several awards for her delicious pies. She liked being out in the country and loved big dogs, having owned several during her life. Kathy will be remembered as a very special woman and an excellent wife and mother. She will be dearly missed by all of her family and friends. Surviving are her husband, Paul E. Murphy of West Newfield; her daughter, Heather Murphy of Portland; her mother, Virginia Gray of Farmington, Massachusetts; her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Mary and Jeff Cuevas of Newfield; her uncle, Floyd Gray of Standish and her cousin, Bobby Gray of Porter.Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday, July 15th at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home located at 580 Main Street in Springvale.Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider sending a memorial contribution to the Animal Welfare Society, Inc., P.O.
