Mary Beattie

Mary "Anita" L. Beattie, 94, of Sanford passed away on Sunday, October 11, 2020 at the Lodges Care Center in Springvale.She was born on February 4th 1926 the daughter of Josephat and Mary (Perreault) Beaudoin in Sanford where she grew up and attended local schools, graduating from Sanford High School in 1944.Anita was employed as a payroll clerk for the Goodall Mills in Sanford from 1944 to 1954. She then went to work for General Electric in Somersworth, NH in 1955 and retired in 1987 after 32 years of services. During her time there she worked in business systems as a key punch operator, a machine operator and then as a computer programmer. She also served as a consultant for a year after retirement.Being an active communicant of St. Ignatius Parish, she served on the parish board; she was a member of the finance committee and served a secretary for 6 years, a member of the family life committee, Eucharistic minister, lector, and a member of the Ladies of St. Anne.While at G.E., Anita was a member of the Board of Directors for the G.E. Employees Credit Union, also as secretary to the board, was chairperson of the credit committee for many years.She is predeceased by her husband of 72 years, Hector P. Beattie (2018), two brothers, Albert J. Beaudoin and Henry R. Beaudoin, and a sister Cecile Beaudoin Richard.Survivors include her daughter Carolyn Burgess and her husband Daniel of Springvale, her son Paul Beattie and his wife Carolyn of Fall River, MA, five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 16 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church, 66 North Ave., followed by a burial at St. Ignatius Cemetery.Due to the COVID-19 virus, please be aware that gatherings are limited to 110 people and masks are required.
