Tom S. Bass, 64, of Springvale, formerly known as Milton R. "Skip" MacDow, died peacefully in his sleep on June 30 at the Coastal Manor in Yarmouth after a long illness.Tom was born Milton R. MacDow on November 22, 1950 in Sanford, the son of Milton Westley and Lorraine Dawn (Butler) MacDow and was a 1969 graduate of Sanford High School.Known as "Skip" to his family and friends, he served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War.Skip was an avid fisherman. He served as President of the Maine Bass Masters Association. Skip and his family traveled the competition circuit of the Bass Masters, up and down the east coast. He enjoyed many great wins and even hosted his own television show, "Bass on Bassin."He was a very talented man and had a great love of music. He was self-taught in several instruments including guitar, banjo and keyboard. He loved playing cribbage, card games, singing, his two little dogs, and the Boston Red Sox.Survivors include his two daughters Erica and Kathleen and their husbands and 6 grandchildren. He is also survived by several estranged half brothers and sisters, of whom special mention should be made to his brother Danny MacDow and his sister Wendy Dion who have been with him over the years through thick and thin.A graveside service with military honors will be conducted on Monday, July 6 at 11:00 AM at the Southern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 86 Stanley Road in Springvale.Skip's daughters would like to extend their appreciation to the staffs of Coastal Manor in Yarmouth and the Hospice of Southern Maine for the loving, dedicated hard work which allowed their father to pass comfortably amongst friends and family.
