Brother Roger Monfette, FIC (Dominique-Roger) died on November 21, 2007 at the St. Andre Nursing Home, Biddeford, Maine at the age of 74 with 56 of these years as a Brother of Christian Instruction.He was born in Woonsocket, RI on April 2, 1933 to the late Antonio Monfette and Eva Grenier. One of three children, he is survived by his sister Miss Jeannette Monfette of Spring Hill, Florida.He entered the Juniorate in August 1948, made his novitiate in Oka in 1951 and his perpetual profession in 1958. He received his Batchelor's degree from LaMennais College and his Master's degree in Education from Kent State University, Ohio. He spent most of his religious life teaching in the Brother's schools in Waterville, Biddeford and Alfred, ME; Detroit, MI ; Fall River, MA ; Louisville, OH ; Plattsburgh, NY ; Tokyo, Japan and Dolbeau, PQ, Canada. He was also involved in other educational endeavors, such as, the Sacred Heart High School in Newport, VT, the GED program of the David School in Kentucky, the alternative school of San Miguel in Providence, RI and the Saint Anthony Indian School in Zuni, NM. He served as a phone solicitor for Food for the Poor in Deerfield Beach, FL and as the French-English translator for the Year of Renewal in Rome, Italy for three years.He was appointed Principal of the high school division of St. Mary's International School in Tokyo from 1983-1986, assistant principal of MAI for the 1988 academic year and short terms as superior of three of these communities, Plattsburgh, Fall River and Denis Hall. Over the years he participated in religious renewal programs such as Sangre, NM, NARB renewal in Hudson, NH ; studies in Pastoral Ministry at Washington Theological Union, DC, at the Athenaeum in Cincinnati, OH and at St. Mary's of the Wood in Terre Haute, ID.For the past two years he has volunteered Mondays and Thursdays at H.D. Goodall Hospital, Sanford in the lobby to assist those in need of directions.Visitation will be Saturday November 24 from 9 :00 to 10 :30 AM at the Brother's Chapel in Alfred followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 :30 AM with Reverend Theodore Lentendre, as principal celebrante. Burial to follow at the Brother's Cemetery.
