Mary A. Minkle
Wiscasset-Mary Ann Minkle, 78, passed quietly in the early hours of Wednesday, May 16, 2007 at the Greenwood Center in Sanford, having been ill for several weeks. Her family is deeply grateful for the kindness and compassion of the people who helped care for her there and at Parkview Hospital in Brunswick.Born in Needham, Massachusetts on October 5, 1928, she was the eldest daughter of Carl and Margaret Parker. She graduated from Needham High School in 1946, and was married to Kenneth E. Minkle on March 18, 1950. Mary Ann and Ken raised their family in Needham, then retired to Wiscasset in 1981, where they enjoyed 25 years of "life in the slow lane." Mrs. Minkle got to know her new hometown when she volunteered for Meals on Wheels, and worked for several years as a senior services coordinator in the Wiscasset area.Mary Ann enjoyed the midcoast region and its people, lunch at Sarah's, coffee with the women of the Miss Wiscasset, a quick trip to Reny's, or the Yellow Front, and visits with Tina, Tim, and the kids. She also delighted in spending time with her family, especially her great-grandchildren, Walt and Rhyleigh. She was widowed in 2005.Mrs. Minkle is survived by her children; Glenda, and her husband Randy Metcalf, of West Baldwin; Brad, and his wife Corine of Franklin, MA; and Vivian of Waltham, MA,; three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren, as well as her sisters Jean Curtis, Priscilla Duval, and brother Carl Parker.
