Zulmira Magalhaes

Zulmira 'Mimi' DeMatos Magalhaes, 94, of Belmont,MA, passed away on Sunday, April 15, 2007 at the Goodall Eldercare Pavillion in Sanford, Maine. She was born on February 18, 1913 in Pardilho,Estarreha, Portugal, a daughter of Joseph Nunes DeMatos and Maria DeConceicao Sabina DeMatos.She came to America to join her husband Joseph along with her four year old daughter, Zulmira 'Mimi' in 1938 settling in Cambridge, MA. She worked as a Master Seamstress in the Boston Needle Trades. Highly repected by her peers she was elected to the office of union representative where she fought successfully for the protection of her coworkers.She is predeceased by her husband, Joseph Magalhaes formerly of Murtosa, Portugal who died in 1968. She is mourned by her daughter, Zulmira Almeida of , Maine, her son, Roger Magalhaes of MA, 9 nine grandchildrena and 18 great grandchildren.Visiting hours will be on Wednesday April 18 from 3-5pm at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter Street in Sanford. and on Thursday from 5-8pm at the Brown and Sons Funeral Home, 36 Trapelo Road in Belmont,MA, where a funeral service will be held on Friday 12noon with burial to follow at the Belmont Cemetery.
