Robert S." Mac" MacLellan, 88, of Sanford died on Friday, July 22, 2011 at the Greenwood Center in Sanford.Mac was born in Boston, Massachusetts on April 17, 1923 to Charles R. and Ada (Seavey) MacLellan. He grew up on Long Island in New York and came to Maine in 1938. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 - 1946 as a Motor Machinist's Mate. He participated in the D-Day invasion at Normandy where he aided in the rescue of many troops from the water. Following his enlistment, Mac began a long career as a mechanic. In 1946 he began his career working for Burbank's Ford and for Stanley Johnson both in Sanford, Westcott Ford in Springvale, P.V. Trucking and retiring from Auclair Trucking in Sanford in 1989. In 1946 Mac married Ruby M. Whitten and they spent the next 64 years together and raised two children. Mac was a motorcycle enthusiast. He and his wife enjoyed traveling together on their bikes. They were able to ride their motorcycles together through all 50 states as well as Canada. He was a member of the Gold Wing Road Riders and the Retread Motorcycle Group. Mac was also a member of the ROMEO's, Retired Old Men Eating Out, that gather weekly to go out to breakfast and go on a motorcycle ride. He was a Past Master of the Alfred Masonic Lodge with over 50 years of membership.Mac enjoyed working around his home and helping his riding buddies with their motorcycles. He was a devoted husband, father and adored his grandchildren. He will be remembered as a kind and loving man and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.Mac was predeceased by his son, Edward W. MacLellan in 1979 and by two siblings, David MacLellan and Nancy MacLellan.Surviving are his wife, Ruby M. MacLellan of Sanford; a daughter Judith Lajoie and her husband Richard of Berwick; two granddaughters, Amy Moore and her husband Michael of Alfred and Shelly Carlson and her husband Andy of Saco; two grandsons, Craig R. Lajoie of Berwick and Steve Junkins of Sanford; one great-granddaughter, Susannah R. Moore of Alfred; a daughter-in-law, Nancy (MacLellan) Junkins of Sanford; two sisters, Janice Howard of Kennebunkport and Theresa Patno of Warner, NH and many nieces and nephews.
