Raymond Charles MacDonald Sr. died on March 2nd, 2018 in the early morning hours at the Newton Center in Sanford Maine. Born in Millinocket, Maine on November 2nd, 1937 to Michael and Hazel McDonald, he is predeceased by his parents, 6 brothers, 3 sisters, his son Michael and an infant grandson. Raymond is survived by his sisters Margaret Fayle of East Millinocket and Shirley Fernald of Millinocket. His loving wife of 55 years, Barbara (Bouley) MacDonald, 4 children, Kelly Lynch of Sanford Maine, Raymond MacDonald Jr. of Millinocket Maine, Alice Goodman of Oswego New York, and Heather Nelson of Cape Elizabeth Maine. He was blessed with 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren, all of which he was able to watch grow and spend time with.Raymond was a proud Veteran of the United States Marine Corp. He was employed for 40 years at the Great Northern Paper Company before retiring. He was a lifetime member of the ELK's Club. He enjoyed long rides and picnics around the Katahdin Region, picking blueberries and collecting fiddleheads each spring. He enjoyed listening to music and playing bingo. A big Red Sox fan, he hardly ever missed a game. Raymond loved his family and would do anything for them. He was always the life of the any party with his quick wit and infectious laugh. He was a wonderful dancer and the family got great joy watching him and Barbara glide around the dance floor. In the 10 years prior to his passing, he and Barbara sold their Millinocket home and moved to a new home in Sanford to be closer to family. His declining health progressed slowly and painfully, yet you rarely ever heard him complain. His spirituality rested deep within the heart of the Catholic Church. While in the nursing home he received holy communion weekly and attended the Catholic Mass every month, right up until his passing. He took great comfort in reading scriptures daily.A Memorial Mass will be held on May 25th at 11:00am, at the St. Martin Catholic Church, 19 Colby Street Millinocket Maine. Prior to the Mass, fellowship for family and friends will be in the Upper Church Lobby at 9:00am. Interment will be in the family plot at the Millinocket Cemetery. The family invites everyone to gather back at the church hall for a luncheon. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made in Raymond's name to the Katahdin Area Support Group, P.O. Box 374, Millinocket, Maine 04462.
